About

Meet Katy

I earned my bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame, a master’s in history from the University of Illinois Chicago, and a master’s in Education Administration from Governor’s State University. I completed the College Advising Certificate program through UCLA in 2024. I recertified as a National Board Certified Teacher in 2023 and have 29 years of experience in high school education and 6 years as a college advisor. I specialize in ACT/SAT test prep, college list building, essay coaching, and financial fit strategies, helping students and families navigate the college admissions process with confidence. With a deep understanding of academic rigor and a student-centered approach, I provide personalized guidance to ensure the best college and career outcomes.

Check out this video where I describe my advice and perspective on finding the best “college fit.”

Personalized Experience

I helped guide my daughter, Dailey, to her dream school, Emerson College, where she is currently a senior studying public relations. She has two PR internships this summer, which she is spending in Boston.

I helped guide my son, Tommy, to Kent State University where he is a rising sophomore studying Construction Management and a member of their football team.

Many families choose me over competitors because of my decades of experience as a high school teacher. Not only do I know the high school curriculum and culture in our community, I connect well with and know how to “read” students, making the process smoother and more effective.

Memberships and Affiliations

I became a member of IECA and IACAC to help stay up to date on changing aspects of the college admissions landscape, after receiving my College Advising certificate from UCLA.

I did part of my practicum for my UCLA college advising certificate with this Community Based Organization that helps first generation and low income high school seniors apply to college. I am a mentor to a rising senior this year.
